What time formats are allowed?

Writes using the line protocol accept the following time formats:

  • Unix nanosecond timestamp which, per Wikipedia, is elapsed nanoseconds since 00:00:00 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), Thursday, 1 January 1970, not counting leap nanoseconds.
  • The precision query parameter can be used to change the precision of the Unix timestamp to a lower precision. The precision options available are microsecond (u), millisecond (ms), second (s), minute (m), and hour (h) (source).

Writes using the JSON protocol accept the following time formats:

  • RFC3999 and RFC3339Nano time stamps (source).

Queries using the InfluxDB query language accept the following time formats:

  • RFC3339 and RFC3339Nano time stamps (source).
